Provenance was founded on a simple observation. Most homeowners spend a lifetime collecting things of meaning and never know what those things are worth, or what should eventually be done with them. The firms that exist to answer this question have, traditionally, been opaque about their pricing, slow in their delivery, and entangled with the auction houses and dealers to whom their clients are then directed. We were built differently.

Independent

We are analysts of the personal property market. The recommendations we provide are grounded in current data: what items of comparable provenance, condition, and quality have actually sold for in the markets that matter. They are not grounded in any commercial relationship with auction houses, dealers, charities, or service providers. Our work reflects the market. Nothing else.

Considered

Each record is prepared with the assumption that it will be referenced for years, perhaps generations. The volume is meant to live on a shelf, not in a filing cabinet. The recommendations within it are written for a homeowner, not a specialist. They are clear, complete, and actionable without the need for further interpretation.

Discreet

The firm operates by appointment. We do not advertise the homes we have documented, nor do we publish client names. The record we produce belongs to the homeowner alone, and is shared only at their direction. Discretion is assumed in every aspect of the engagement.

We exist to provide clarity, on the homeowner’s terms, and only when invited.
